New Home - Where To Build It

In this article we're going to discuss a number of factors one should consider before deciding where to build one'sr new dream house.

Deciding where to build your new home is not simply a matter of closing your eyes and playing pin the tail on the donkey on a map. Where you build the home you ultimately decide to live in can have an enormous impact on the quality of your life for years to come. The number of factors involved in where to build are more numerous than most people realize.

Let's start with the town or city itself. Building your new home in a well off neighborhood will probably be very good for your social standing. But keep in mind that your taxes are going to be sky high. Make sure that the monthly payments that you're going to be hit with are payments that you can comfortably afford. On the other side of the coin, building a home in a poorer neighborhood, while lowering your mortgage payment, will have a great effect on the future of your children, if you have any or plan to have any. Poorer neighborhoods usually have poorer school systems. So while you may be saving yourself a few bucks on your mortgage you could be seriously hurting your child's education. This will come into play even more when it comes time to pick out a college. Students from poor school systems have a harder time getting into good colleges even if their grades are high.

Another thing to consider is the location of the home in relation to its surroundings. For example, when building your home you probably want to make sure that there is ample shopping within a relatively short distance. You don't want to be going out to the supermarket for frozen items and have an hour ride back to the house. By the time you get home your frozen items will be water. Naturally, a home that is closer to shopping centers is going to cost more than a home out in the middle of nowhere. You need to take this into consideration.

Another thing you want to be aware of as far as surroundings is transportation. You probably don't want to build your home next to a regularly run railroad line unless you don't mind the constant noise that you're going to have to put up with. On the other hand, if you don't drive you probably want a home that is close to public transport. Walking a few miles just to get to a bus stop probably isn't going to be your first choice.

You may also want to consider the amount of land you have available to you for building. If you're looking to build a mansion with enough backyard space to put up a football field you want to make sure that you have enough land for your dreams. Just remember, you're going to have to mow that monster of a lawn.

Finally, you will want to consider the actual terrain that you build your house on. If you're a little older you probably don't want your house up on a high hill where just walking up the driveway will be a chore. On the other hand, if you're worrying about intruders you may want to build your house in an area that isn't easily accessible to the outside.

You can probably think of other factors as well. This is just to give you an idea of how much really goes into deciding where to build your new dream home.
